About Us

COMPANY HISTORY

UPR has a history of more than 35 years in the provision of power generators to construction, data centers, manufacturing, shipbuilding and ship-repairing, offshore, shipping, tunnelling, telecommunication, power grid and utility industries. Its activities extend to regional countries in China, Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines and Singapore.

In the past 30 years, we have demonstrated our capability in making many international events and power projects a success. UPR moves from strength to strength in the regional countries, supporting infra-structure development like grid transmission line and power facilities that lagged behind the needs for economic growth and insufficiency in private sector participation in power plants investment.

With these opportunities, UPR expands rapidly in these countries capturing the shortage of power and surge in electricity requirements. China was the first country where UPR set up its base out of the home ground, Singapore to meet with the demand of power in 2006. In the following years, UPR participated in multi-megawatt power projects at Subic Bay in Philippines as well as for power facilities in North Sulawesi, Indonesia. Over the years, we have also built our capacity to dispatch high performance generators for use on board vessels that carry cargoes plying the region.

UPR systematically configured its larger capacity units into ISO 20ft containerised canopy for ease of shipment and deployment to sites. It adopts a common policy to standardises its control system to meet with more complex demands of power requirements of clients.
Today, UPR’s clients are regional established companies in manufacturing, shipbuilding and ship-repairing sectors, offshore oil exploration, data center and power utility organisations.

INDUSTRIES WE SERVE

Shipbuilding and Ship Repairing

UPR supports new build of vessels where shore power is unavailable. Modular generator power and Oil-Free Compressors (OFC) can be deployed for a broad range of equipment with applications in delivery compressed air, short blasting, spray painting, lifting of heavy items and others.

For pre-delivered vessels, UPR provides load testing services to confirm the performance of the large capacity turbines installed on board. These turbines may be rated at different voltages, depending on the types of vessel built and their applications. UPR’s load banks can be connected with our purposeful designed transformers for attaining the required voltages for the test. Our testing capacity for vessel turbines exceed 200MVA and that is sufficient for all types of special purpose vessels like drilling rigs, semi-submersibles, FSO, FPSO, LNG and heavy lifting platforms cranes.

UPR also participated in the power supply of many different types of vessels built in China, Indonesia and Singapore.

Offshore Services

Many offshore platforms need Rig Safe Generators to support requirement during shut down maintenance of its turbines or for additional power when more facilities are being added to the platforms.

International Events & Sports

UPR Group is renowned for its participation of international events in the region. It took on the challenge to provide and manage the power supply for the “F1 Formulae Night Race” in Singapore for 5 consecutive years, the Singapore National Parade Power Management contract for 19 years, 1st and 2nd Youth Olympic games in Singapore and Nanjing, China respectively. Other important events namely are the 28th SEA Games, Asian Games, Universiade Inter-University Competitions and the Beijing Winter Olympics Games 2022.

Key activities include:

  • Power and solution design packages to the Event organisers
  • Cable laying and site co-ordination
  • Provision of Automatic Transfer Switch (ATS), Manual Transfer Switch (MTS), UPS, Static Transfer Switch (STS), Electrical panels, cable trays.
  • Site supervision & experienced technicians 24/7 support
  • SCADA monitoring and enhanced cyberwar attack prevention systems
  • Ensure uninterrupted power delivery and quality performance for Event.

Power Plant & Utilities Services

Support clients’ needs on temporary and permanent power on base load or on island mode operation. This operation is common in supplementing the grid power where additional power is needed along the transmission network several hundreds of miles away from the distribution area. In a remote region where power station is not being sufficiently established or in the part of the existing power transmission tower where it is undergoing maintenance, short term power from a reliable power supply company on rental like UPR will alleviate the shortage and to prevent a brownout situation of the grid.

At UPR, we are capable to deliver power in short notice to client’s station to take over the supply of electricity to the power grid. In a coordinated manner, power can be delivered to the client’s production by taking over the supply from the grid and with a seamless manner to transfer back (back synchronise) the power to the grid upon its return.

Main features of our services include:

  • Set up of temporary power plant within short notice
  • Quick mobilisation with transformers and switchgear system as a complete solution
  • Prevent production losses due to any brownout of grid power
  • Voltage setting as required by clients.
  • 24/7 technical service and support at site.

Construction & Infrastructure

Mass Rapid Transit Tunnelling Work

During tunnelling work where the location is not being supported with city power, a temporary source of power from generators can be useful to drive the boring machines.

UPR engineers work with clients on their specifications to design and provide comprehensive solutions, taking into the account of the starting current to drive the bore bits, distance of travel and operating patterns.  In a built-up area where sound level is a concern to the environment, UPR delivers its excellent sound insulated generators to meet with this criteria.

Main features include:

  • Soundproof generator units to achieve noise compliance
  • Quick set up with fast relocation capacity if required
  • Power engineering design with comprehensive power solution for situations
  • Transformer for providing higher voltage setting required for operating boring machine
  • Switchgear protection for safety for equipment & personnels
  • Provision of electrical panels for desired outputs, medium voltage cables and connections

Data Centre

Load banks can be used to test and discharge battery banks of the Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS). It can also be used to provide as a heat load bank to verify the capacity of the cooling system installed at the UPS halls. UPR’s large capacity load banks may also be deployed to test the function of the control system as well as the multi-megawatts of standby generators installed as the backup at the Data Centre which is part of the stringent industrial requirements to ensure the integrity and completeness of data stored there.
